Leadhills and Wanlockhead are not renowned for copper minerals, though several primary ore species of copper have been recorded and secondary copper species are also found at both localities.
This is in addition to those minerals which have lead as a major constituent in addition to containing some copper in their structure, such as linarite or caledonite, for example.

Nevertheless, these copper minerals rarely make for interesting hand specimens or display quality pieces.
They are however of interest to micromounters. Some of the commoner copper species encountered figure in the photographs below.

BROCHANTITE - (Copper Sulphate Hydrate)
Leadhills, Lanarkshire.

Emerald-green prisms in parallel growth associated with royal blue linarite.

MALACHITE - (Copper Carbonate Hydrate)
Straitsteps Mine, Wanlockhead.
A fibrous coating of malachite covering an area to 8mms.

AURICHALCITE - (Zinc & Copper Carbonate Hydrate)
Straitsteps Mine, Wanlockhead.
Massive-fibrous aggregate in cavity with blue and white banded hemimorphite.

CHALCOPYRITE - (Copper Iron Sulphide).
Katystakelinn Vein, Leadhills.
A lustrous 3mm crystal on quartz and ankerite.
